Skyetime Podcast profiles OATS and the Fairy Pools car park project

In the latest edition of the Skyetime Podcast (25 September 2020), Simon Cousins meets Dougie Baird, the Chief Executive of OATS.

Listen now:

OATS is in the final stages of a major project to build a new car park and toilet block at the Fairy Pools in Glenbrittle. Dougie chats to Skyetime’s host, Simon Cousins, about this challenging project and the many access, social and economic benefits it will bring to the island, its visitors, and residents; and how this project’s innovative partnership approach has provided the perfect model for access infrastructure projects in other remote areas of the UK and further afield.

Dougie also gives listeners an engaging insight into the history of the charitable trust and an overview of just how strong funding partnerships and people – skilled contractors, volunteers, trainees, and path users – are key to this successful business, who’s objectives include conservation, access, training, volunteering, and social cohesion.

The Skyetime Podcast aims to celebrate Skye, one of the jewels in the crown of Scottish Tourism, and the amazing array of visitor-facing businesses, the culture, history, geography, and people of the island. Skyetime is hosted by Simon Cousins, a broadcaster with over thirty years experience who lives on Skye and works with local organisations to promote the island and individual businesses. Skyetime (the brand) is an initiative of SkyeConnect – the Destination Management Organisation for Skye and neighbouring areas.
