Fairy Pools access road closed for extensive repairs – Monday 04 to Friday 15 November 24

Highland Council have just announced that the Fairy Pools access road will be closed for two weeks for essential road repairs:

Road improvement works to the C1237 Merkadale – Glen Brittle Road (Fairy Pools) on the Isle of Skye start on Monday 04 November 2024 and are expected to run until Friday 15 November 2024.

The road will restricted to essential local access only – during amnesty periods – and be closed to all other traffic to allow the works to progress safely.

During the restrictions The Highland Council will undertake urgent remedial works, passing place extensions and resurfacing.

The works will commence at 08.30 until 18.00.

The local roads team asks non-essential visitors to avoid the area while repair works are being carried out on the road.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we improve the road condition so that all may benefit from the works.

The road is closed to all but essential local access (during amnesties) and the Fairy Pools car park and toilets will be closed until the emergency works have been completed.

The Glen Brittle Road will be a live work site. So, walkers, cyclists, and vehicles keen to visit the Fairy Pools will not be allowed access along the road.  This is for their safety and the safety of the contractors.

Please support and respect the efforts of contractors working on the repairs to the infrastructure, by changing your plans to visit The Fairy Pools for the next two weeks.

We are sorry for the inconvenience to residents and our visitors.

We are very grateful to the Scottish Government, especially Kate Forbes, MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, who have provided the Highland Council with the additional funding to carry out this emergency remedial work.

We look forward to welcoming visitors back to the Fairy Pools when the road has been repaired.

OATS will continue to work with partners to help improve traffic flows for the benefit of residents and the 200,000 annual visitors who use the road and the car park.  We will continue to use the Fairy Pools car park income to provide direct financial support to the local community, employment, and investment in the Fairy Pools and other popular Skye sites.
