06 May Under Our Feet – The Unappreciated Art of Upland Path Building
Thanks to Dan Bailey at UK Hillwalking for a fantastic environmental feature, Under Our Feet – The Unappreciated Art of Upland Path Building.
In it, Dan highlights the skills and hard work undertaken in all weathers required to build a sustainable mountain path, and the urgent need for donations from hill users and for sustainable funding from the Government to maintain Scotland’s mountain path network for future generations to enjoy.
“Most walkers pay little heed to the paths they rely on, yet without maintenance, a busy trail will soon degenerate into a spreading scar. Path work is both hard graft and highly skilled. So what does it take to build an upland trail?”
As an avid hillwalker and path user, Dan’s visit to An Teallach, where our major path-building project, a major focus for our It’s Up to Us campaign with Mountaineering Scotland, is underway, was an eye-opening experience for him.
If you love being in the mountains and use mountain paths for access and safety, please read the feature on the UK Hillwalking site: https://www.ukhillwalking.com/articles/features/under_our_feet_-_the_unappreciated_art_of_upland_path_building-16312
Any donations for the path-building project on An Teallach will make a huge difference – https://savemountainpaths.scot/
