Upland Paths – Mountains & People

Between 2015 and 2020 the Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland’s upland pathworks will be delivered under The Mountains and The People project.  Led by the Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and in partnership with Scotland’s two National Park Authorities, Cairngorms and Loch Lomond & the Trossachs, Forestry Commission Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage, this project aims to conserve the unique upland mountain landscape across both National Park through a programme of Upland path maintenance and conservation activities.

Full details of the project can be found on the project site at www.themountainsandthepeople.org.uk

Ben LediA significant aspect of The Mountains and The People project is the delivery of over 125km of path repair and upgrade works across both of our National Parks.  Work will be focused in the south and west Cairngorms as well as throughout much of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park area.  The list below outlines our preferred sites which were identified through detailed consultation with landowners and users.  Due to the complexities of upland path construction this list may change over time.

Through improving upland paths across some of our countries most iconic mountains the project will conserve the vulnerable habitats being destroyed through the path erosion and braiding caused by a combination of recreational use and weather.
