The Creag Bheag upland style path has had a number of path repair projects. The COAT path works start from the edge of the the woodland heading up to the summit of Creag Bheag and then over and down to the junction for the Golf Course circular path and the Kingussie to Newtonmore via Loch Gynack path.
Much of the path work has been carried out under COAT’s Trainee programme from Phase one; a years Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) as part of the West Cairngorms Mountain Heritage Project and Phase two and four under the European Social Fund (ESF). Phase three was completed as a contract.
In each of the phases cross drains; water bars, anchor bars and path surfacing from borrow pits were features of the path work, whilst Phase 3 also included sections of stone pitching, requiring a helicopter lift of bags of stone from the adjacent hill Creag Mhor and a helicopter lift of path surfacing where borrow pits were unavailable due to the rocky nature of the terrain at the top.
Construction/Path work Dates: Phase 1 2011; Phase 2 2013; Phase 3 2013; Phase 4 2014
